Dawn of Flight

Some nights we were carried by angels

softly lifted from

dark wounded places

that left no more lessons

no promises of better.

Some nights we were carried by angels

far into the sky

illuminated by stars

seeking the light that introduces

dawn.

Some nights we just were.

Long wordless nights

kept afloat by prayers,

imagination run rampant,

other lands, other love,

other something.

But now,

over endless hills

mirrored in green and gold

morning sky

we see them, those angels,

there in the light

and suddenly we are released

into that land we saw so clearly

where hope abides,

where souls release their darkness

where angels part like water

and finally here,

we fly.
